BiographyAnnie San Martín was born #1 of 10 children to devout Catholic parents. Being the oldest, responsibilities were many. The family resided in New Jersey, Wisconsin, Florida, Massachusetts, Maryland and Ohio through the course of Annie's childhood, making a sometimes difficult existence for all. Perseverance, commitment, spiritual grounding and discipline were instilled by mother and father and provided Annie the where withal to succeed a trying childhood. Sand, mud and found objects provided escape and became the stuff dreams were made of. Whether drawing, embroidering, hand sewing or mud play, Annie constantly remained creative during time away from the details of life as the oldest of many. Father, William, was an engineer and hobbyist of woodworking and photography. This afforded Annie with a fine example of artistic and creative avocation. Mother, Patricia, provided the means of expression and interpretation. Charcoal pencils, papers, how-to books, stained glass, sculpture and painting kits, piano and guitar lessons; all compliments of her mother, contributed immensely to Annie's artistic bent. In Annie's childhood and adolescent world, there were many factors playing a role in her decision to become an artist. If one were to ask any given artist where it all started for them, you would probably hear them say, through a teacher. Annie was no exception. In the third grade Mrs. Szciperski (St. Clement Elementary, Ft. Lauderdale, FL) planted the seed by giving special bulletin board space to Annie's marine, equine and dog drawings. Mrs. Collins (Bedford Middle School, MA.) taught her how to build her first mask. Mr. Petrovsky (Bedford High School, MA) instilled a love of drawing and all of the arts. Mrs. Arlene Russo (St. John's Literary Institute at Prospect Hall, Frederick, MD) placed that first piece of clay into Annie's hands. Robert Coates, SallyJo Havas, Dr. Robert Agnew and Anne Vaccaro (Edison State College, Piqua, OH), each in their own way, contributed to the love affair Annie came to have with the art world and remain her lifelong friends. Every single teacher, along with Annie's parents, molded the ideals she carries with her to this day. As a result, she has the deepest of admiration for those who dedicate their lives to the enrichment and support of the arts, especially for the young. Annie San Martín is a full-time professional artist and has resided in South Florida since 1999 with her visual artist and musician husband, Rogelio San Martín. Together they have 6 (2 his & 4 hers) children, 4 African Grey Parrots and 3 Bearded Collies. Annie's favorite pastime is avid bicycling. Her love affair with the arts continues in the forms of sculpture, photography, painting and web design. Together with Rogelio, her husband, they own Annie San Martín (Web Design) supporting artists' needs to display online portfolios. She would like to encourage everyone reading this to "Support The Arts."
